Why
didn't I think of this years ago. Attached old mattress pads to the
umbrella cover with clothes pins and made a tent to protect my orchids
and other plants on the patio table. |

"We have this succulent and cannot find out the name of the plant. We
brought several pups to the last meeting, but did not get an ID. The
pups start from the tips of the mother plant and are velvet-like and
silver in color. As the plant matures, it turns a bronze color with
tiger-like markings. It blooms in the winter with tall pinkish stalks
and deeper colored bells. It is absolutely beautiful at Christmas time
and lasts into the better part of winter. After blooming, the mother
dies and the pups take over for the next year flowering. It prefers sun
and is drought tolerant. Can anyone help us to identify this lovely
plant?" |

With all the helpful
"clues" from members of the group, I was able to find the species of Kalanchoe.
Here is a link to the plant, complete with photograph.
Thanks to all that
helped to identify this unusual plant. http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=KABL

I'm looking for the
names and tel. # of places to get barrels for rain water collection. I
remember Mary Ellen gave this information to the club during the
meeting at Tribu. Is this posted somewhere on the website or do you
have it so that you could send it to me? On
the calendar there is the listing for the next rain barrel class, which she said
is the cheapest way to get a rain barrel - I think it is $20.00 to learn about
rain barrels and you get one as part of the class. There is a class at the end
of next month.
I
didn't list the sources for the rainbarrels online yet. The two locations in
Pinellas
County are:
D
& C Brothers (Dino or Chris) on Hercules Road, Clearwater -
(727) 447-1733
Bodine
Specialty Foods (Greg), 22151
US 19 N, Clearwater, (727) 791-9339.
These
barrels don't come with the spigot attached, so they will end up costing more
than those given at the class.
